The focus of my shiatsu is to help my clients feel more comfortable in their bodies, and help to manage emotional and physical stress and tension. I do this through strong and nourishing acupressure that allows you to release and get in touch with your body. You will feel more balanced, calm and energised.
I also use moxibustion and cupping in my treatments where appropriate.
I am also a trained scientist and I take a pragmatic approach to bringing shiatsu and oriental therapies into our busy worlds. I love travel, scuba diving, yoga, our natural environment and my friends and family.
What is shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a Japanese word that translates as ‘finger pressure’. It is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, and uses hara, pulse and tongue diagnosis to shape the physical treatment so that it is right for you. A shiatsu treatment involves acupressure with the hands, elbows, knees and feet, as well as stretching and movement. It is done fully-clothed on a comfortable futon on the floor.
A shiatsu treatment can make you feel deeply relaxed and energised, and it can relieve tension, fatigue and stiffness. It is a powerful therapeutic treatment that also works on a subtle and deep level. It is also useful to maintain health and balance in the body: ‘to administer medicine after an illness begins is … like digging a well after becoming thirsty or casting weapons after a battle has been engaged.’ (The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Medicine, ~240BC)
